READING CHALLENGE
Who: Any SES Student
When: February 3 - March 1
Where: At Home on Lexia
Why: To increase the use of Lexia and make students better readers!
It is time for Shafer Elementary School’s second Lexia Reading Challenge for the 2019-2020 school year! This Lexia challenge will be in conjunction with Read Across America Day, which is celebrated on March 2nd! Not only is this a day to celebrate and promote reading but it is also the birthday of one of the most famous children’s authors, Dr. Seuss! For the next four weeks, beginning Monday, February 3rd and ending Sunday, March 1st, students are encouraged to go onto the Lexia Reading Core 5 computer program each night.
Lexia is a reading enriched program that focuses on key skills in phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. Students move from level to level in the program gaining practice and mastery of specific reading skills. The link for Lexia can be found under the student resources page on Shafer Elementary School’s website. Students can log in through Clever and click on the Google email link. They will then need to put in their email address (student#@nasdstudents.org) and their computer password.
If your child is using an iPad to access Lexia, the directions are different than logging in using a computer.
-
Download the Lexia Core 5 app (not the myLexia app). The icon looks like this:
-
You should be prompted to enter a teacher’s email address
-
-
You can use the teacher’s or Mrs. Israel's email address as it won’t make a difference (sisrael@nazarethasd.org)
-
-
Use the student number for BOTH the username and password
On Monday, March 2nd, Mrs. Israel will check to see which students have spent the most time on Lexia during these four weeks.
